Women in Business

20130315-155434.jpgA week ago today, it was International Women’s Day and I was invited along to a Women in Business breakfast event to learn more about the network.

I did question being one of only two guys being invited along, but it was a pleasure and a bit of an insight into this supportive network for local business women.

At the breakfast table, we heard about some key events coming up in the next few months and also of a new leadership programme at Queens.

As a guy in business I did question why there wasn’t a ‘Men in Business’. But on reflection I should be questioning why there should ever even be a need to single out either sex to provide a supportive network. As far as I’m concerned we’re all on this journey together!

Headed up by CEO Roseann Kelly, Women in Business NI has a membership base of almost 1,000 ranging from large corporate organisations, small /medium sized businesses and sole traders – senior managers, business leaders and entrepreneurs.

It offers members monthly networking sessions, opportunities for members to promote their business to other members, masterclasses, workshops and events including an annual event at Parliament Buildings, Stormont; a bi-annual visit to The Oireachtas; an annual conference and awards ceremony.
