In total contrast to the grim and very wet day in Belfast, a museum full of fashionistas were treated to a cheeky little glimpse of Spring on Friday. Yes it was the launch of the West Coast Cooler FASHIONWEEK in the striking setting of the very contemporary and minimalist Ulster Museum.
Belfast FASHIONWEEK is THE fashion event of the Spring, and this year the main events are happening in the Ulster Museum, so we recommend you keep the 21-24 March free in your diaries, because you will be wanting tickets to see a fashion show in this amazing location. We have been to one fashion show in the museum before and it was truly special and memorable. But you can read more about that event here.
The media launch of FASHIONWEEK was packed with glamour, as Katie Larmour, Pamela Ballantine and Pete Snodden mingled with models, editors, fashionistas and bloggers. But all eyes were on the Spring Fashion trends and listening to Cathy Martin, director of FASHIONWEEK launch the new season events.
“After fifteen seasons and nine years, FASHIONWEEK has become a much celebrated and anticipated event among people of Northern Ireland. It provides local retailers and designers the opportunity to showcase their designs and talents and very much supports and encourages local businesses. We fully support the ‘Back in Belfast’ (#backinbelfast) campaign after a disastrous last quarter for many in fashion retail, so this is a wonderful opportunity for retailers to get involved and entice the customers back in to the city and in to the shops. Once again, we will be showcasing all the key collections from the high street as well as the finest established and up-and-coming local designers from all over Northern Ireland to create an exciting first glance at all the latest trends.
She added: “Key looks this season include pretty pastels, striking stripes, flirty florals and eye catching graphic prints. In terms of colours it’s all about the bright neons, monochrome and also white and neutrals are big for spring/summer too. Shows always sell out so we’d encourage anyone who wants to come along to any of the events to snap up their tickets!”
If you are planning on getting your tickets ordered, here’s the lineup…
George at ASDA will showcase a major spring 2013 collection on Thursday as one of the opening events that week.
Friday 22 March
