The musical by one of Northern Ireland’s longest established amateur musical theatre company’s, New Lyric Operatic, plays in the Opera House this week.
It was great to arrive at the Opera House and see how packed it was. From our seats in the circle it looked like a full house.
I haven’t seen the Calamity Jane movie in years, but the songs were still very familiar, as they clearly were to the rest of the audience. There was a theatre full of happy clappers and nodding heads. It was great to see, and everyone just looked like they were having a great time!
Two stand out performances for me personally, were Calamity herself who was just superb and totally in character, and also Francis Fryer, who was perfect and funny and every time he was on stage, I just smiled!
Calamity Jane the musical, was a pleasure from start to finish and it ended with a well deserved standing ovation as The Deadwood Stage is a-rollin’ on over the plains….Whip crack-away!, Whip crack-away!, Whip crack-away!
