Have you been watching the Olympics and cheering on our Northern Irish medal winning Olympians? Big congrats to Paddy Barnes, Michael Conlan, Richard and Peter Chambers and Alan Campbell.
Yesterday Paddy and Michael were treated to a well deserved homecoming parade in Belfast, and today Richard, Peter and Alan were the stars of their Coleraine parade.
But it’s not just Olympians who have been winning, as a handful of local businesses have been receiving ‘Great Taste Awards’ recently. These awards are the most trusted and recognised food and drink awards across the country and businesses from our wee country have been receiving their own equivalent to an Olympic medal.
Whittled down from almost 9000 food and drink products, 300 experts have been selecting the best of the best, and piling the awards in the direction of NI.
One of our favourites, Belfast-based Suki Tea, have been granted a total of 7 stars across 5 of their teas. Keep an eye out for them as they are fast becoming local tea legends!
Another leading local tea brand, Thompson’s Family Teas, has been awarded 3 Gold Stars for its ‘Thompson’s Titanic Tea’. A total of 9 Gold Stars were awarded to Thompson’s Family Teas equalling last year’s record haul by the company behind Punjana.
Award winners across NI include, Cloughbane Farm Shop, Pomeroy, Hannan Meats, Moira, Kettyle Irish Foods, Lisnaskea, McCartney’s Butchers, also Moira, and Broighter Gold for their fantastic rapeseed oil.
Hannan Meats won an incredible 26 stars, the most ever won by a single company.
Impressive stuff for our wee country!
Oh, and then add in Rory McIroys second Major win and we are a Land of Giant Champions!
