Yesterday, for the first time since it opened, I had a proper, just for me, afternoon in Titanic Belfast. A leisurely afternoon when I wasn’t rushing round, taking pics, tweeting or facebooking. It was actually my third tour round, but the first time I had been able to read everything, touch everything and just relax and be taken on a journey through Belfast during Titanic times. As per the norm, it was very busy, yet there was still plenty of space to relax and enjoy.
Today however may be a different story, as there is a lot going on down there in the building and out on the slipways. It’ll all be about chess, vintage cars and afternoon tea at the iconic building.
More than 20 vintage cars, some as old at Titanic itself, will steer onto Titanic’s historic slipway when the Irish chapter of the Vintage Austin Register visits at 10:00am.
Meanwhile, Belfast artist Anthony ‘Anto’ Brennan will launch his Titanic-themed chess set in the atrium of the building from 11:00am.
They are also now serving Afternoon Tea in the Titanic Suite, the room with the Grand Staircase, on selected Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (excluding August 26). Prices start at £23 but for a little bit more you can have a glass of Heidseck Monopole Champagne, the official champagne of RMS Titanic.
It’s also the last weekend of the Into the Deep marine experience to celebrate National Marine week.
