A food weekend.

Last night I put 4 images into a montage as I thought about what we got up to at the weekend in Belfast and my brain stalled….what on earth do I say?
Here I am 24 hours later and the light came on, 3 out of the 4 images involve food….ooops, not good for the waistline!
The food weekend began in Madison’s restaurant on Friday night. Madison’s Hotel on Botanic Avenue has been a popular Queen’s Quarter Hotel for many years, and we had unbelievably never eaten there. I know we shouldn’t be surprised, but the food, staff and experience was superb. Serving Irish produce, the restaurant is clearly proud to be supporting local, a bit like us at Belfast Times. Choosing from the Winter Evening Menu, we had some great value delicious Irish food in what was a busy restaurant with a great vibe.
On to Saturday and we pottered about Town (why do we say ‘town’?) getting inspiration and marketing ideas from various shops, new Belfast Times products need created after all. We did spot the new Titanic Experience tour bus, and quickly decided that they are on to a winner, as the bus really stands out, and what better way to get to the Titanic Quarter and up to the Titanic Pumphouse than on this bus.
Back on to food though and in what seems to be a weekly ritual these days, we popped into our favourite chocolate shop, CoCouture, for our favourite hot chocolate and for some amazingly divine chocolate honeycomb and fudge, all made by the very talented Deirdre McCanny. Next time you are on Chichester Street, you really should pop in to the underground chocolate shop.
Sunday was as always, St Georges Market day, and it’s always a mixture of healthy food and some naughty treats. It usually starts off really healthily with a smoothie from our favourite smoothie maker, Squeeze Juice Cafe. The lovely Jacqueline even managed to convince me that a Spirulina smoothie really does taste good.
The afternoon normally spirals into a sugar haze with a now traditional white chocolate rocky road from Check out my Buns, but this week a Banana (semi healthy) cupcake from Vanilla Dream Cupcakes was added into the mix….yum!
Needless to say Monday morning saw the return of the Anti Sugar week, as my PT Neil McTeggart always says, sugar is evil, well this week it is! Let the detox begin with a little help from a weeks supply of Squeeze Juice supplied wheatgrass.
