Review: Weddins’, Wee’ins and Wakes.

20130618-095437.jpgWeddins, Weeins & Wakes….currently showing in the Lyric Theatre until 7th July is very much a family affair in every which way. Written by Marie Jones, directed by her husband Ian McElhinney, and their son Matthew McElhinney playing the role of Derek. This is a touching story of a local community, with a young couple starting out in life surrounded by family and the hilarious old dears reminiscing about how life used to be.

This is one of those local themed comedy’s the Lyric can do so well, and with Marie Jones writing, it was always going to be hilarious. Only someone from Belfast could capture the heart, soul and humour of the City, and Marie piles on the laughs by the bucket load.

When you see a cast with Katie Tumelty, Kerri Quinn, Sean Kearns, Marty Maguire and Roisin Gallagher, you just know it’s going to be good.

We laughed our way through Weddins, Weeins & Wakes as the cast took us on a Belfantastic hilarious journey capturing local humour at its absolute best. We loved the hoedown, the Benny Hill style chase, the echo of the Beverley Hillbillies throughout, the old dears Mona and Molly. We also loved that Marie Jones plays Molly. I think you get the drift….we just loved it!

This is one of those plays you just have to see and you can thank us later!

What a super show loved every min of it. Lots of great music and Belfast jokes. What a body Derek has. Well worth going to see it.
