Trend spotting on the Med for guys!
I’ve already blogged about our spring break to Majorca, and as always on holiday we enjoyed some trend spotting and people watching to check out the Balearic new season trends.
What were ‘the trendy guys’ wearing in the Balearics?
Glasses with wooden effect legs or frames popped up everywhere. Are these the next trend in eyewear? They certainly looked different, I need to hunt out a pair of wooden effect sunglasses for our sunnier days, you remember them don’t you? . Although to be fair, I do wear sunnies all year long, they are for the sun on any day, not just a warm sunny day.
New Balance trainers are still everywhere and worn by everyone, not just the trendies, but on this holiday I ditched the NB trainers and wore my new Skechers (from the Belfast store), much more comfortable!!
Brogues, driving shoes/loafers, and suede footwear of all shapes and sizes were popular as well.
Yes it has come back from the 70’s to take over. It’s everywhere! Get your shirts and jackets and of course shoes in suede and rock the look. Topman, Zara, Pull & Bear and Springfield were all in the suede zone with a multitude of suede shades and styles. Check out this Instagram image where they’ve coupled suede with that other hot trend, Aztec. I like!
Skinny paint-on effect jeans.
Seriously skin tight stretchy jeans almost like Lycra leggings are in! A size 32 waist Jean looked tiny enough for a 10 year old to wear. Me squeezing in to a pair is just never gonna happen. I’ll leave that for those much more compact in size.
Super baggy jeans and trousers. They are on their way. Fashion man Nick Wooster has been wearing them for a while with no socks and accompanied by those brogues or trainers.
Do you remember last summers rolled up jeans and trousers with no socks, this year it’s all about shorter length trousers, cut to show off those mankles without turn-ups. Again it’s Zara leading the way, well they are the biggest European brand and it’s a very European look. Get those tanned ankles out on show with shorter slim fitting trouser and denim this summer….and no turnups! .
Hair was all about a modern pompadour with skin fade and taper. It’s much longer on top , but not man bun length. It’s the continuing evolution of the classic undercut with hints back to the rockabilly look from the 50’s. Most guys were keeping the top casual and soft rather than overly styled, but I’m guessing that was the relaxed daytime look.
Here’s a version of it from my own hairdressers in Bangor, Nicholas Graham Aveda Salon. And stop looking at the model, it’s all about his hair, and the crazy fun Nick and Michael.
That’s just some of what we spotted for your Spring/Summer 16 trends.
Time to hit the shops in Belfast then.
