Theatre In The Great Outdoors

Make the most of summer with an outdoor theatre treat this August. Enjoy one of our open-air performances in the Civic Square , Mossley Mill , Newtownabbey. Bring your picnic basket and bask in classical splendour at the Opera Gala Evening on Saturday 2nd August or lounge on the lawn and enjoy an enchanting enactment of Alice Through The Looking Glass on Wednesday 20th August.

The ‘Opera Gala Evening’ will include a host of operatic delights performed under the baton of conductor Andrew Synnott and starring one of Ireland’s leading sopranos Virginia Kerr with friends from the international opera stage. Music lovers can look forward to classic arias from the world of opera including: the Toreador Song from Bizet’s Carmen, Song to the Moon from Rusalka by Dvorak and many more.

“It is almost five years since Andrew Synnott conducted our opening production Sweeney Todd and I’m delighted that Andrew is returning to conduct our first open air Opera Gala Evening. We have seen a huge demand for our outdoor theatre performances and this special evening will allow audiences, new and existing, to enjoy an evening of beautiful music in the stunning civic square at Mossley Mill” explained Art Centres Manager, Bernard Clarkson.

Take a trip to wonderland this summer with the whole family on the 20th August join Alice in the timeless tale ‘Alice Through The Looking Glass’. Follow Alice’s adventure into an extraordinary world that is laid out in the form of a giant chess board where our heroine must enter the game as a white pawn. Children and adults alike will be captivated by her quest across the board and encounters with Tweedledum and Tweedledee, the Walrus, and many more memorable characters in this faithful adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s wonderful world.
