The Cornish Pasty Trading Company is a little piece of Cornwall situated in Belfast City Centre. The cafe is owned by Derek Brum, who after falling in love with Cornwall, wanted to bring its famous pasties to Belfast. Since opening in August 2011, word of mouth has helped this Church Lane cafe to become a successful oasis for local Cornish Pasty lovers.
Simply Cornish, a trading arm of Warrens Bakery in Penzance (the oldest baker in Cornwall at 252 years old), supply the Cornish Pasty Trading Company with hand made pasties which are baked on the premises every day by Derek. But Derek not only provides delicious traditional Cornish Pasties, he also sells vegetarian pasties, soups, Irish Stew, sandwiches, mini Ulster Fry and breakfast baps.
In the 5 months since opening Derek has spread the word about the cafe through some unexpected promotional activities. Apart from twitter and facebook, Derek is already establishing himself as the Pastyman on Blast106 FM, and he has even got some local film makers on board to help promote the cafe.
The Pasty man came onto the Belfast Times radar through twitter and after a visit to our Sunday stall at St Georges Market, Derek loved our work so much, he invited us to have a small photographic exhibition in his upstairs lounge. So next time you are in the Church Lane area, between Victoria Square and High Street, make sure you pop in to see Derek, taste a pasty and check out our photographs.
