On Friday 31st August, IKEA took over the Big Fish and surrounding area to celebrate the launch of the new catalogue and the 2013 IKEA Year of Textiles theme. A team of students and tutors from the University of Ulster, worked with IKEA textiles to textile bomb the iconic Big Fish. There had been #dressthefish teasers bouncing about twitter for a few weeks, but last Friday the fish was finally dressed, and everything went textile crazy….even though it was once again, raining!
Dressing the fish isn’t the only IKEA event happening, as this coming Friday 7th September sees the annual Crayfish party return to the Belfast store to celebrate the famous Swedish food tradition.
Last year, IKEA Belfast helped the Swedish retailer earn its place in the Guinness World Record books by staging the biggest Crayfish Party throughout the UK. This year, the party continues as the special Nordic tradition sees families come together at the peak of the crayfish season to enjoy as much as they can eat, all washed down with traditional Nordic tipples.
Between 6 and 9pm on Friday, IKEA Belfast will be filling the party goers tummies with crayfish, meatballs, shrimps, herrings, lingonberry jam, cheese and dill pie and potatoes. For dessert you can expect strawberries with pancakes and cream, chocolate krokant cake and rhubarb crumble….doesn’t that all sound amazing!?!
If that isn’t enough of a party, the music will be very Swedish themed, and what’s more Swedish than the ABBA tribute band, BJORN IDENTITY.
It certainly sounds like a fun night out, so why not get your tickets sorted and pop along to join in what has become the UK’s biggest Crayfish Party.
Tickets are available to purchase from the restaurant or Swedish Food Market at IKEA Belfast with IKEA FAMILY members availing of a special rate of £6.75 (price includes 3 complimentary drinks). Regular ticket prices: Adults £8.95; Children under 12 £6.75; Children under 5 FREE.
