Belfast FW SS16 Style File by Lewis Cameron

WHO: West Coast Cooler FASHIONWEEK SS16.

WHAT: Denim on denim, miscellaneous metallics and romantic feminine neutrality.

WEAR: Belfast FASHIONWEEK comes of age this season marking its 21st catwalk run with some new and exciting SS16 trends packed with chic and sophisticated glamour, with a hint of a luxurious feminine edge.

First up, denim on denim is back and not in a grungy, punk, streetwear vibe but in a modern and contemporary format, pushing the blue jeans trend to new heights with fitted denim tunic tops, matching culottes, shaped jumpsuits, sequin patched short sleeve dresses and shades of blue in abundance. Well and truly breaking the ‘no jeans’ rule previously set by FASHIONWEEK director Cathy Martin.

Then came the romance in the form of floating frills in a pale, neutral palette backed up by voluminous silhouettes, ruffles galore, subtle structures and opulent simplistic styling. A personal highlight; A white gold bomber jacket from Topshop worn alongside a rose ruffle sequin dress from Diamond Dolls.

Finally, we had an explosion of contrasting metallics mixing androgyny with all things theatrical as eye-catching off the shoulder cuts took the lead, shining strong in a sea of glitter and glam. Favourite look included grey highwaisted trousers by Miss Selfridges worn alongside a silver mesh top from Topshop.

WHEN: March 10th-13th 2016. Belfast Fashionweek HQ. The Life Church. 11A Bruce Street.

WHY: 21st Season with a host of local designers and boutiques, highstreet gems, creative pop-up shops and a celebration of Northern Ireland’s finest fashion talent.

ONE TO WATCH: Fashionweek newcomers include Sarah Alexander Boutique (Newtonards) and Lotus (opening in Holywood in March).

BEST BITS: The Fashion Souk & the return of The Fashion & Retail Awards celebrating the history of Fashionweek whilst embracing the future of retailers and local designers from across Northern Ireland. Both held on Saturday 12th March.
