Sweet Charity at the MAC

As I said last week, I love the MAC a little bit more with each visit, and now I love it.
Last night we popped in to see Sweet Charity and managed to squeeze in time for a quick bite to eat before the show. We had 25 minutes to get seated, order and scoff dinner before the show, and the MAC restaurant staff accommodated us with ease. A quick, delicious burger and fries later and we were in Downstairs at the MAC ready for Sweet Charity.
It was our first time in the larger of the 2 MAC theatres and I’m still amazed how much they have fitted into that little plot of land. The 350 seat theatre is as expected after seeing Upstairs at the Mac last week, it’s a modern and perfectly designed performance space.
Sweet Charity, the Tony award winning Broadway smash was fantastic, and I can’t believe it’s a locally produced collaboration between the MAC and one of NI’s finest theatre companies, Bruiser.
To be honest I didn’t know anything about the musical. I certainly didn’t know it had so many big songs and I certainly didn’t know how good it was. The lead actress, Laura Pitt-Pulford, last seen in Belfast at the Lyric Theatre world premiere of The Little Prince, was perfect for the role as the sweet Charity Hope Valentine, and her talent is astounding, as was the whole cast in fact.
There was so much talent on stage last night, I think we were a little bit in awe of them all! I’ve never seen a musical where the cast, sing, dance, act AND play the instruments throughout the performance. Once again, just like Pony Dance at the MAC last week, I just wanted to be up there with them soaking up the talent.
Sweet Charity is a very funny, poignant and toe tapping show, and a definite must see in Belfast this month. It runs until the 17th June, with tickets between £9.50 and £22, and it’s worth every hard earned penny!
Make sure you go early for a bite to eat as well, it really was delicious.
Thanks again to the MAC for providing us with another superb night out, and no doubt we’ll be back.
