Organisers of Northern Ireland’s leading lifestyle and alternative music festival Sunflowerfest have recently confirmed Co. Down natives The Answer and London electronica group The Orb will headline the fifth annual event at Tubby’s Farm, Hillsborough alongside Mojo Fury, who will perform on the closing night of the event.
In addition to these outstanding headline acts to celebrate Sunflowerfest’s 5th year, over 80 other acts from diverse musical backgrounds and genres are also scheduled to take to the festival’s five stages this year. Since its debut in 2010, Sunflowerfest has quickly built a reputation for delivering an eclectic, family-friendly three four-day event and this year’s festival, scheduled to take place from 22nd to 25th August, promises to be bigger and better than ever.
Attracting international artists as well as local talent and emerging acts from Northern Ireland and beyond is a coup for the quirky festival, explains Music Coordinator Phil McCarroll. “Sunflowerfest is unique because we offer something for every musical taste, from death metal and ska to jazz, folk, and of course rock and roll on the festival’s five stages,” Phil said. “Guests wanting to escape into a chilled out atmosphere will enjoy mellower folk and acoustic artists at our Campfire stage, while hard rock and metal enthusiasts can take advantage of the offerings in the Barn, which are typically a bit heavier. We also offer plenty of family-friendly space for everyone to take part in the festivities.”
Speaking on the acts scheduled to perform this year, he added “We are delighted to welcome back Sunflowerfest veterans including Amanda St John, Pocket Billiards, Randal Stephen Hall and The Bonnevilles, while we also welcome newcomers to our festival like King Kong Company, Loris, Go Swim, Fox E & The Good Hands, and also acts from further afield including Arkham Dispatch from Canada and unique all-girl act Akabane Vulgars on Strong Bypass, who will join the festival all the way from Japan.
“Of course this year’s guests are eagerly awaiting an appearance from world-renowned electronica group The Orb as they polish off their classics in the unique setting of the idyllic Tubby’s Farm in Hillsborough on Friday 22nd August. Saturday’s headline act will see the return of return of County Down’s The Answer as they take to the main stage on Saturday (23rd August). Finishing off the festival on Sunday, 24th August will be, fittingly, Lisburn’s Mojo Fury, who are growing significantly in popularity over the past few years and will be a great addition to the festival.”
Sunflowerfest kindly acknowledges the assistance of the Northern Ireland Tourist Board and Lisburn City Council in the production of this year’s event and welcomes SOS Bus NI as the festival’s official charity partner.
