#stylewatch review of 2013 by @loulouvance

With 2013 now officially over it’s hard to believe how quickly the year went in and the myriad of events that I covered over the last 12 months for “Style Watch”! It’s been so much fun spotting the fabulous style of Northern Ireland’s stylish ladies so I thought I’d take this opportunity to look back at some of the events I’ve covered and pick out some of my favourite looks of 2013!

My first ever Style Watch featured Alexandra Godfrey’s Fashion Show and Entertainment Evening in aid of Tiny Life, and it was fellow fashion blogger Nicola McLaughlin who caught my eye in a stunning leopard print silk gown, perfectly accessorised with Christian Dior sandals, the “limelight” clutch from Louis Vuitton, and Hermes “collier de chien” cuff! A girl after my own heart, Nicola certainly loves her labels!

Next up was another charity fashion show, this time held in the opulent surroundings of Stormont, Parliament Buildings in aid of Action Mental Health! I had been given the honour of choosing the best dressed winner at the event, and it was the beautiful Sharon Louise Geddis in a stunning dress by local designer Ruedi Maguire who won hands down! A true lover of fashion, Sharon very sadly passed away only a short time after this picture was taken and is greatly missed by us all.

One of my favourite stores, CRUISE held it’s Summer Style Party and guests really ramped up the style stakes, dressing to impress! Young Apprentice finalist Maria Doran looked amazing in black, making her acid pink bouclé the focal point of the ensemble, complimenting the look with a statement scarf!

Next up I was lucky enough to attend a very special gig by local singer/songwriter Jason Clarke when he performed an intimate gig on the rooftop garden of The Merchant hotel! I myself was wearing my favourite label, Karen Millen with L.K. Bennett sandals, while the always stunning Inga Norvilyte wowed in a stunning aqua jumpsuit!

West Coast Cooler Belfast FASHIONWEEK, is always one of THE most stylish events to attend, and the same could be said of it’s Media Launch too! Model and FASHIONWEEK TV presenter Katie Larmour always looks stunning, but I was seriously wowed by her floral metallic suit by Sister Jane accessorised with silver Jimmy Choo shoes at the Autumn/Winter launch! Talk about serious style envy!

As we moved into Autumn, CRUISE held it’s second event of the year, showcasing it’s winter looks, and it was model Jayne Higgins’ striking coat that really captured my attention, with it’s intricate floral embroidery, she looked fabulous!

Before I knew it, AW13 FASHIONWEEK had arrived, and I was seriously impressed with the variety of looks worn by attendees!! On Day One, it was once again Katie Larmour who wowed in a pink vintage style prom dress, perfectly nipped in at the waist with a gold leather belt from local designer Una Rodden, and striking studded shoes from Valentino.

On Day Two, Belfast FASHIONWEEK Director Cathy Martin looked amazing in a printed silk top by Northern Irish label, Goddess and Swift styling it with a edgy black patent pencil skirt and blue suede sandals from Zara!

FASHIONWEEK held it’s luxurious Afternoon Tea at the decadent Merchant Hotel, and I loved Lauren O’Kane’s delicate lace blouse teamed with a fabulous pair of gold lame shorts, while Artist Christine Trueman rocked one of AW13’s hottest trends, tartan at FASHIONWEEK’s finale event, “Style Sunday”.

Ladyboys of Bangkok returned to Belfast once again for their “Glamorous Amorous” tour and my most glamorous of the night by far was journalist Lauren Penman, in a killer metallic dress and matching choker from London which hit all the right style notes!

Lots of new restaurants opened throughout 2013, and one of the most glam launches was that of The Malt Room, where textile designer Judith Cassidy shone in a striking monochrome striped dress and red suede heels, proving that monochrome never fails to make a statement!

Appletiser StyleFIX finished it’s tour around Ireland in the sleek and modern surroundings of The Ivory Restaurant, and video presenter Lucy Ellen wore one of THE must have pieces of AW13: a winter pink coat, accessorised with a major piece of arm candy, a Hermes Birkin handbag!

The Fashion SOUK and Unify NI joined forces to launch “Studio SOUK” and it was Stylist and Illustrator, the lovely Sara O’Neill who was my best dressed of the night in a fantastic dress by Isabel Marant for H&M, accessorised with some gorgeous edgy vintage pieces!

In Dublin, Style Watch covered the Oasis “Style Your Future” event, and Michelle Doherty looked rocked a monochrome patterned jumpsuit with a simple black cropped jacket, showing just how versatile jumpsuits are!

Last but by no means least was the Ian Stuart Bridal Event, and I loved Nicola Ward’s fantastic body con bandage dress from Blush, which she paired with a seriously covetable “Daria” clutch from Mulberry!

I hope you’ve enjoyed checking out my favourite looks from the past twelve months, and don’t forget, Style Watch will be out and about in 2014 covering all THE most stylish events of the year for Belfast Times!
