#stylewatch at Stormont

Fashion and politics came together on Thursday as Action Mental Health hosted a glamorous evening of fashion in the prestigious surroundings of the Great Hall at Parliament Buildings, Stormont. Now in their 50th anniversary year and celebrating being chosen as the Northern Ireland Assembly Commission’s inaugural Charity of the Year, the evening not only helped to raise money for AMH, but also helped to raise the profile of, and awareness of mental health issues.

Myself, The Real Elle Woods was there as ever to cast my eager fashion eye over the stylish audience members for Belfast Times Style Watch, as well as having the privilege of judging the evening’s “Best Dressed” Competition on behalf of AMH!! The lucky winner was not only treated to a large basket of sugary treats from www.dollysretrosweets.com but they also received the stunning handmade “Lizzie” necklace from www.rebrojewellery.com.

Sharon Louise Geddis was my worthy winner, sporting a killer LBD by local designer Ruedi Maguire. Recent winner of IN! magazine’s “Breakthrough Designer of the Year” I especially loved it’s striking neckline and leather frill detailing at the hemline, fashion forward yet timeless in it’s design. Sharon finished the look with a monochrome handbag, one of the key trends for the season.

Monochrome was the big story of the night, as not only was it featured during the fashion show, it was THE predominant trend amongst guests. Stand out was Avril Keys in a beautifully cut monochrome striped dress from Warehouse reminiscent of what was seen on the catwalk’s of Dior and Jonathan Saunders. While Gina Potter worked monochrome in an abstract print, sporting one of Gráinne Maher’s iconic “Bark at the Moon” pendant’s from her “Pluck and Devour” range.

Statement coats and jackets proved that you can still look good and stay warm, with guest Kerrie Mann rocking an abstract camouflage print jacket, while the stunning Juilet Rayner kept her colour palette simple letting her sheepskin jacket act as the focal point of her ensemble.

A truly spectacular evening with stunning style both on and off the catwalk, It was great to be a part of an event for such a worthwhile cause. The Real Elle Woods signing off……well until the next fashion event that is!
