#StayNI : The Mal life

staycation
steɪˈkeɪʃ(ə)n/
nouninformal
1. a holiday spent in one’s home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions.

Whether you’re staying at home and enjoying day trips around our amazing local countryside, or if you are travelling to stay in a hotel for a few nights escapism, a staycation is the best way to experience what Northern Ireland or Ireland has to offer. And there’s so much.

Although we’ve featured quite a few staycation ideas over the years, we thought branding them as #StayNI would help you find our top tips or local experiences a lot easier here on Belfast Times.

The first of our #StayNI features involves a special treat night in one of the awesome suites in the Belfast Malmaison.

samson suite
It’s a hotel with very special memories for us. It is where we’ve hired the fabulous private dining room for birthday parties, stayed in the suite for our honeymoon and had a little reception in the adjoining function room. So needless to say it holds a really special place in our hearts.

Recently we booked back in to the suite for a night, for no other reason than a #stayNI treat.

goliath suite
On the top floor of this dark theatrical and sumptuous hotel, you’ll find two very glamorous suites, Samson and Goliath. They have been known to host a number of celebrities, and we always have great joy in knowing that pop princess Kylie Minogue has stayed in our suite. Yes, it is our suite, because every time we stay over it feels like home. And we’ve never had that feeling in any other hotel….ever. Although the Fitz is starting to come close!

It’s always about the Goliath Suite, here it is to see why.

But if you want to go bigger, with a pool table, huge bathroom and even more space then maybe the Samson Suite might appeal.

A special place with special memories and two suites we can’t recommend highly enough!

private dining at the mal
Elsewhere in the hotel, the private dining room is the best! Overlooking the hotel bar through big porthole windows, you can hire the room for a party, and have the dining tables set up to suit your own needs, and decorate the room as you wish. Actually, the first party we had there was for a friends 40th birthday party, and I designed the party invite in Warhol popart style, which resulted in a commission for the H&W cranes in popart style and ultimately was the beginnings of Belfast Times and our stall at St George’s Market.

mal bar
Downstairs in the bar, the cocktails are great and super value. We’ve had many great nights there, propping up the bar or chilling in one of the comfy sofas or chairs. Again it’s a dark and glamorous place with muted luxurious materials and of course those great cocktails . Needless to see we’ll be heading there soon some Friday night to indulge in their recently relaunched ‘Thank Mal It’s Friday’ promotion. Every Friday from 5-8pm they will be serving £5 cocktails and drinks offers along with live music from 6-8.30pm.

We’ll see you there!
