Acclaimed comedy dance act, Ponydance, return to the MAC tonight for a Christmas off-the-wall comedy show

Following on from Ponydance’s success with their sell-out show ‘Straight to DVD’ earlier this year, the ponies are returning to the MAC to end 2012 with a bang.

Based in Belfast, but touring the world, Ponydance have been purveyors of fine comedy dance theatre since 2005. This year they performed to packed houses at the Edinburgh Fringe and Dublin Fringe, received fantastic reviews for their show at the MAC and won “Best Dance” at this year’s Adelaide Fringe.

Ponydance will now unleash their time honoured and much loved, irreverent approach to everybody’s favourite season…well not everybody’s, but spend a night with the ponies and you’ll remember why Christmas can be so much fun.

The hilarious, energetic show from the Belfast-based dance company is a series of off-the-wall sketches based on the highs and lows of the festive season.

Leonie McDonough, Artistic Director at ponydance, said:
“Our new show ‘pony panto’ includes all of our usual dancers, known fondly as the ponies, a number of special guests and a some fantastic live music played by local band, Shake! Expect plenty of fun, costume changes and a little bit of madness.”

Gillian Mitchell, Director of Programmes at the MAC, said:
“When ponydance suggested ‘pony panto’ an alternative Christmas show for adults, I jumped at the chance to bring them back to the MAC . Our audience loved ‘Straight to DVD’ in May so we are thrilled to bring this comedy Christmas treat to Belfast for the first time.”

‘Pony panto’ runs from tonight (11th) until the 16th December and includes a relaxed performance that has been specially adapted for adults with learning disabilities and autism who might benefit from a more relaxed theatre environment. During the relaxed performance the lights are kept on, people are free to come in and out of the show and make noise throughout.

Ponydance will set off for their 2013 tour which sees them visiting Canada, Australia, the USA and New Zealand amongst other countries, where they will showcase the skills and humour that won the BankSA Best Dance Show Award 2012.
