Sabrina’s Style: Belfast West Coast Cooler Fashion Week Press Launch

Summer was pretty miserable. It rained. A LOT. The only time I actually got to break open my summer wardrobe was on holiday. Good old Northern Ireland weather eh? So I for one am excited for autumn and the welcome change of being able to actually dress for the season, and an excuse to buy new clothes, obviously. The West Coast Cooler Fashion Week A/W press launch recently took place in the very chic and cool surroundings of the church life building in Belfast and give those lucky enough to be present a sneak peek into the top trends we can expect to find on the catwalk and in stores this autumn/winter 2015 and it did not disappoint. I’ve picked my top five trends that will be dominating next season that were showcased at the West Coast Cooler Fashion Week press launch;

Suede

Like it or love it get used to it because suede is going to be EVERYWHERE in Autumn/Winter 2015. There is no avoiding it so you might as well get on board and join the suede club. It’s this season’s fashion staple. The great think about Suede is how versatile it is. Pair denim and suede, a suede skirt and blouse or even suede squared, whatever way you decide to wear it just make sure you are wearing it.

Colour

Bright, bold colours are no longer reserved for the spring/summer months; in fact they’re back with a bang this autumn/winter. Your winter wardrobe no longer has to be dull and boring with bright pinks, striking reds and even a cheeky bit of mustard leading the way on the A/W catwalk. Colour is officially here to stay. My favourite piece showcased at the A/W press launch was this amazing red floor length two piece by local designer Gordon Donaldson. LOVE!

Velvet

Honestly I’ve never been a huge fan of velvet. It brings back way too many memories of the dresses my mum would force me to wear as a kid. BUT I’m officially converted. Some of the pieces at the Fashion week press launch were AMAZING and not noticeably velvet at all. The great thing about velvet is you get three for one; style, comfort and sophistication in the one trend. If, like me, you find velvet a little daunting add it gradually to your autumn/winter wardrobe starting small with velvet shoes or a bag and gradually build up to a luxurious full velvet look.

Granny chic

No, seriously! Macklemore and Ryan Lewis were totally on to something wearing their grandad’s clothes because Granny chic is totally in! Raid your granny’s wardrobe and layer up because wearing a huge oversized jumper is now not only acceptable but totally fashionable. Layer up with turtle necks under your favourite colourful dress to turn it from summer casual to on trend this a/w. Or add an oversized coat to any outfit to give it that granny chic finish. The best part of this fashion trend? Granny Chic is making it totally fashionable to wear flats! Toss the heels to the side ladies and opt for your favourite pair of flats. Not only will you be loving life in comfort but you’ll be a stepping forward with your fashion foot first.

Metallic

The shine was on metallic at the West Coast Cooler Fashion Week Launch and it was glorious. Add a metallic clutch to jazz up you’re outfit or if you dare go head-to-toe in metallic either way having something metallic in your wardrobe this season is a MUST. 9I fell in love with Nor Lisa’s floor length metallic gold dress at the fashion week launch and cannot wait to see what else is in store this season.

Of course fashion has no limits. Want to mash these trends together and wear a metallic skirt with an oversized jumper? Go for it!
