Review: Stitched Up at the Lyric theatre

(null)Leaving scissors in a patient on the operating table is never going to be a good move, but when surgeon Aidan does just that, he’s left with some life changing and amusing consequences. Add into the mix a wife who is key to the removal of the peace walls in Belfast, who loves her Louboutin heels and is insanely jealous, Aidan is feeling the pressure.

One night, while Aidan is home alone, Ruari comes into their lives in need of an emergency operation. Aiden, who has been suspended from the NHS over scissorgate, makes a decision which shakes up their lives a bit, but also opens up the opportunity for some more laughs thanks to Ruari.

Stitched Up, showing at the Lyric Theatre Naughton Studio until 21 Feb is an edgy entertaining piece of theatre brought to us by c21 theatre company and written by local Rosemary Jenkinson.

Rosemary throws in a great mixture of political awareness and local humour into her writing. Along with a bit of speculation about the future of Belfast and some local dialogue, she captures local issues and humour in a way that only a Norn Iron writer could.

The cast includes Richard Clements, Roisin Gallagher and Darren Franklin all from Belfast of course. It wouldnt be the same if they weren’t from the City!

Stitched Up is a short but entertaining 75 minutes of rakin your bacon and at £15 it’s worth heading along to the Lyric for a giggle and of course to support good local theatre.
