Review: Lunch at @howardstbelfast

20131031-163804.jpgWe had already called in to have a sneak peek of the new Belfast foodie delight just before the first customers started to arrive on the first day its doors opened. Check that out here. So it was only right that we went back the following day for lunch!

Howard Street is the new place to chill out and enjoy good food in what was the old High and Mighty shop on Howard Street and they are all about fresh food.

Clearly it had to be tried out….

With the Belfast on trend industrial look, red bricks and exposed fixtures and fittings, we love the look of the place. It’s not fussy or over the top, it’s just all about the food.

So what about the food?

Each of us had a different lunch. There was a Sea Food Chowder (which looked and apparently tasted amazing!), a French Onion soup which later on BelfastTimes Instagram was described as ‘I’m getting emotional just thinking about it’, definitely a good recommendation. The third choice was the tagliatelle special of the day with mushroom sauce, ordered by the only non mushroom fan of the party, but who cleaned the plate… Another good sign. And finally I had a steak sandwich, I’m not a big steak fan either, but that was one tasty lunch.

I was the only one who had dessert, I was almost forced into it…I’m now thanking that forcefulness. Wow! That was one special chocolate fondant with earl grey ice cream. Quite possibly the best dessert I’ve had in Belfast in a while. (Other restaurants..feel free to challenge me to a taste test!)

So, from being told their French Onion soup was their signature dish (I’ll try that next time) I’ve decided the chocolate fondant should be their signature dish. Actually, maybe all their food is quite superb and all have the potential of being billed as ‘Howard Street signature dishes’

Good job guys!! Love the place and I’m looking forward to trying out that unique cocktail menu after a hard weeks work, and maybe have a bowl of French Onion soup and my new favourite dessert again.

Check out their website here for their great menus, but check them out on Facebook and twitter as well for updates.
