#Beautybitch @CathyMartin : Pucker Up Buttercup!

Pucker Up Buttercup!

Valentine’s Day may be over, but that’s no reason to leave your lips lamenting…. This week #beautybitch @cathymartin looks at right now’s hot colours and cool creams for the most luscious of lips…

As Maria once said in The Sound of Music, ‘Let’s start at the very beginning, it’s a very good place to start’… so this week we’ll begin by getting back to basics with our lips.

After some pretty blustery and cold weather outside coupled with warm (but drying) heating on the inside, and maybe (just maybe!) some beard or stubble kissing over Valentine’s Day, I’m pretty sure your lips are dried out, like mine have been. Lips, like our face, need help to create a barrier to protect them from the damaging elements and harsh effects of our environments and our lifestyles. In fact the skin on the lips is thinner and more delicate, so it’s important to dish out some daily lip TLC throughout the year.

The first step in achieving luscious lips is the removal of dry, flaky and dead skin – and one product we love for this is the FRANK Body Lip scrub and balm duo set. A cinch at just £11.95! I love its sweet smell as much as anything, plus it actually does its job well.

I also LOVE OleHenriksen’s African Red Tea exfoliating Lip Salvation. Filled with emollient and conditioning extracts like cranberry and linoleum oil as well as powerful, naturally antioxidant-rich African Red Tea, this balm will leave lips deliciously soft and with a natural pinkish tint. This lip salve is free from paraben and petrolatum, so it ticks my boxes for natural ingredients!

I also love the Elemis Lip Revive which is rich in vitamins and natural plant collagen and contains White Bees Wax, Mediterranean Olive Oil Wax and Cocoa Butter to condition, moisturise and soothe. Other ingredients include healing Calendula, Japanese Wild Mint and Peppermint to cool and soothe dry, chapped skin.

The French have it nailed with the DARPHIN Xquisage Eye & Lip Contour cream – this wünder product works both immediately and over time. Upon application, the cushiony, indulgent formula absorbs instantly to soothe and smooth the lip and eye area, refining the lip contour – and then smoothing it out over time, saying a big ‘au revoir’ to those vertical lines around the lips.

Staying with the French, I also ADORE Sisley beauty’s Confort Extreme Nutritive Lip Balm. At £44, it is on the upper end of the price bracket, but it has exceptional repairing benefits has some of my absolute favourite oils (Hazelnut, Plum and Sunflower) and butters (Shea and Kokum), so is worth every penny as it rehydrates and plumps lips in equal measure. Perfect for very dry or chapped lip, its creamy texture leaves skin comfortable and supple. Lips are instantly moisturised and lastingly protected: they appear softer, smoother and plumper. Voilà!

My old favourite, the Crème de la Mer lip balm ranks highly here – it feels like velvet on your lips and a little definitely goes a long way… so the £40 price tag is worth it in my opinion. (For my full review on CDLM Lips, see my first blog)…

If you’re on a budget, try LIDL’s Cien Lip Balm sticks – £1.25 for a pack of three. Skiiers will be pleased to know there is a sports version, especially for those on the pistes!

I also love VOYA’s lip balm stick, certified organic and packed with sweet almond and coconut oil, this little wonder is rich in natural anti-oxidants due the soothing seaweed extract oil it. So, priced at just £10.00, this is a perfect handbag accessory for beauty aficionados. I totally love the lemon and lime but my co-workers prefer the vanilla and peppermint – your choice!

And if you’d like to support a local brand, Skinician offers a fantastic lip balm at just £10.45 – with cool packaging and a growing fan base, this is a great go-to product for girls on the run.

If your lips aren’t quite all yours, then Ormedic Balancing Lip Enhancement Complex could be just the thing. This medi-cosmetic product diminishes fine lines as well as reduces inflammation after lip injections, so if you get lip fillers, this is the cream for you – because continued use will complement and enhance the effects of professional dermal fillers. It has been specifically designed to enhance the appearance and volume of lip contours. It is an ultra-hydrating, powerful polypeptide lip enhancement complex which will add up to 40% of moisture volume with repeat usage.

And now for the colours of the moment…. I really cannot decide, so I’ll let the pictures (and the captions) tell the story here – but I think I may have a soft spot for the Bobbi Brown Ibiza Pink…

Until next time
