Pick ‘n’ Mix festival, now in its sixth year, is a weekend long festival at the MAC from 14-16 June featuring 28 performances by 14 companies, showcasing the very best in local music, theatre and dance from Northern Ireland’s top theatre and dance companies and the hottest emerging talent.

Each year the festival attracts a wealth of talent from companies across Northern Ireland keen to showcase their new work. This year’s eclectic festival line-up includes a rock-pop musical, an Irish language play, rehearsed readings, a Dance Mix where you can see two shows for the price of one and a number of short plays. The weekend closes with the MAC’s Cathedral Quarter Quarterly Quiz on Sunday evening hosted by Leonie McDonagh from ponydance. With shows during the day and evening lasting from 30 to 90 minutes you can pick and mix to create your own perfect compilation for the weekend.

Gillian Mitchell, Director of Programming for the MAC said: “We are so excited to bring Pick ‘n’ Mix back to the MAC this year with a staggering number of events over three days. The MAC is the home of independent theatre and dance in Northern Ireland and will continue to work to play a key role in the development of the sector. Pick ‘n’ Mix is a perfect example of this in action, where we showcase the most original, inspiring and often provocative home grown theatre and dance on offer.

“The festival is much loved by audiences and the arts sector alike and the weekend is just a complete buzz of excitement from start to finish. It literally is a pick ‘n’ mix where people can stay for the day or dip in and out for the events that suit them. Some of the shows have very limited availability so we would advise people to check out early what they want to go to. We would also like to invite people to stay around for some free post-show celebrations on the Friday night at 10pm to help us to kick off the festival weekend in style.”

Damian Smyth, Head of Drama & Literature with the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, principal funder of the MAC, said: “The Pick ‘n’ Mix festival weekend has established itself as an annual ‘must-see’ and it will bring the best in home-grown talent to the world-class venue that is the MAC. The diverse programme of music, theatre and dance featuring local theatre companies, playwrights, actors and musicians will ensure that there really is something for everyone. It’s also great to see the return of the Ultimate Compilation Ticket which gives audiences the chance to mix it up over the course of the weekend and try out the wide variety of high quality, contemporary performances from our up and coming talent.”

Emma Jordan, from Prime Cut Productions (performing ‘Stitching Time’ as part of the festival) said: “Pick ‘n’ Mix is an important platform for emerging artists and the development of new work in Northern Ireland. It is important for the theatre and dance community in NI to have a supportive environment that facilitates the development of practice and encourages experimentation and risk-taking. It also allows audiences the opportunity to see work from some of our brightest new and established talent.”

Tickets for all Pick ‘n’ Mix events are priced at just £6 each, or festival-goers can make the most of the weekend with the Ultimate Compilation Ticket, which allows the chance to enjoy any 6 shows for just £30. Tickets are available from themaclive.com or by phone on 028 9023 5053.
