Many of us are back to work after time off enjoying the beautiful sunshine, and despite the old saying, ‘Don’t cast a clout ‘till May is out’; more skin was definitely on show. For me a key indicator that things are improving is when I pack my long boots away for another year, so if you did this over the Easter holidays, you may want to fill the hole in your wardrobe with new season loveliness. However, if you don’t know your metallic from your monochrome, I’ve picked some spring/summer looks from Ballymena’s Fairhill Shopping Centre guaranteed to inject some zing into a tired wardrobe.
Let it Shine: Designers have put pedal to the metal by ramping up metallic finishes and iridescent fabrics with bling crystals and mirrored embellishments. This metallic shine brings a fresh sense of opulence to clothing this season.
Power to flowers: Floral prints are back in bloom, from sweet to spicy, romantic to exotic, there are plenty of patterns to choose from. Designers have found a way of putting a new season spin on the trend by using intricate and beautiful appliqués.
Modern Monochrome: Opposites attract with black and white hitting the rails with gusto. Whether using abstract prints or pairing one piece and another, the monochrome trend certainly stands out for all the right reasons.
Top of the Crops: Ramp up your membership, as toned abs and short tops are cropping up again. Team with high waisted skirts for an elegant evening look or with matching shorts for daytime. While the crop top is often a trend feared by many, this season’s choices make it easier to embrace this style statement.
Sport gets Luxe: Sports-inspired clothing can be flexible, flattering and, unusually for fashion, comfortable.
Experiment with texture – leather and sheer are wonderful ways to add frisson to sportswear. Remember not to get too relaxed, pairing sweat pants with trainers is a no-no; instead go for sandals to give the ankles some breathing space.
Sheer Perfection: Sheer and transparent fabrics are one of the most seductive looks this season, and the light-as-air material is perfect for hot summer days. Retailers like TopShop have managed to make good use of sheer fabrics, by adding black sheer panels to the sleeve of a bouclé sweater or using a sheer black mesh on their slouchy sweaters.
Fairhill is open weeknights Wednesday to Friday until 9pm. Retailers include: Topshop, Miss Selfridge, New Look, Clockwork Orange, River Island and Marks & Spencer.
