One Man, Two Guvnors – If you only go to the Opera House once this year, it has to be for this comedy.
Unbelievably based on 250 year old play, One Man, Two Guvnors is quite simply IT! Possibly the best comedy we’ve ever seen on the big stage, as Rufus Hound and cast act out a side splitting, big fun, night of laughs.
We walked into the theatre, and to our surprise, there was a band, The Craze, on stage. From here the surprises and British humour never really stopped.
The staging was superb, and you’ll love what happens every time they change it. You’ll also love the audience participation, and if you’re sitting in the front few rows, beware! On opening night we had two guys picked from the front row, who it appears, took Rufus by surprise and helped provide some of the biggest laughs of the night. Were they plants, actually, were any of the other audience participation moments plants, we don’t really know or mind, because they were genius.
It’s easy to see why this has been hailed as the best play in the West End, and why it’s been such a success story, as writer Richard Bean has brought this old play right up to date and screaming into the 21st Century, even though it’s set in the early ’60s
We can’t praise or recommend it enough, get your tickets bought and get down to the Opera House for an unforgettable night of fun and laughter before it’s final performance on Saturday 24th November.
