Northstars go International

This weekend, the Belfast Northstars will carry the flag for British and Irish baseball as they attend the Finkstonball Invitational Tournament in Attnang-Puccheim in Austria.

It will be the fourth time that the Northstars have travelled to the tournament that welcomes club and international sides from all over Europe and the rest of the world.

The Belfast side will have a difficult time getting out of their group, having been seeded with the reigning champions Bad Hamburg Hornets and a representative side from the Dominican Republic. That said, Jon Carter’s team is renowned for not being easily intimidated and never taking a back step against more professional teams. In normal circumstances, the Belfast team would be shorthanded with the B team being called into action against the Dublin Tigers this Sunday

Fortunately for the Stars, reinforcements are on the way.

As well as representatives from the clubs in the south of Ireland, the Northstars lineup will be strengthened by Alex Pike and members of the London Mets, as well as the welcome return to maroon and gold of 2013 Northstars A Most Valuable Player, John Sculli.

With a solid pitching staff in tow and a reputation for having a never-say-die attitude, the Belfast Northstars will be looking to turn a few heads in Austria this weekend.
