From nomads to nobility, soft pastel hues to charcoal greys, coastal inspired prints and majestic, metallic textures, the latest offerings from Una Rodden Couture walked the catwalk with grace, elegance, effortless chic and elite, opulent poise. Closing Directory 15’s ‘Style Heroes’ grand catwalk finale on Friday September 26, flaunting Una Rodden’s trademark spectacular silhouettes and glamorous, cutting-edge designs for the Autumn/Winter season ahead.
The collection hosted a meticulously Parisian vibe, going all the way from the pilgrim chic styles of bohemian simplicity to the aristocratic sophistication of the privileged elite. Featuring a black textured Chanelesque blazer complete with super, statement sleeves and a monochromatic rim. Alongside free -spirited looks of contemporary a la mode ensembles, displaying simplistic and minimal designs in the form of relaxed and functional on trend trousers, an oversized, embroidered blouse and panelled jumper combos.
Supported by ice-cream pastels with the arrival of elegant evening-wear gowns, playful cocktail inspired dresses, a gold silk, knotted gown and a modern, powder blue cashmere cape. Highlighting an embossed design on the inside, worn around a matching, scale-embellished dress to achieve a colour-blocked catwalk finish. A recipe the immensely talented Una Rodden says is in fact her favourite piece of the collection.
“I tried to create a collection in which all the pieces work with a multifunctional purpose. They can move between day and night, casual to eveningwear. Pieces people need in their wardrobe on a daily basis.”
And even though I am not a female, nor a wearer of skirts, there is one standout piece that I believe I need to own. It may be simply to gaze at from afar or to force my female friends to wear to fashion events in my presence, but I need it in my life. This season’s must-have. The parachute skirt. Made from Yves Saint Laurent fabric Una sourced herself in a metallic nude offering, packing a feminine bow detail and mega pleats to create the balloon effect of this catwalk show-stopper.
Una also continued her on-going collaboration with print artist Sara O’Neill creating new looks in Una’s signature style utilising Sara’s ‘EADACH’ illustrations, blending detailed pencil drawings and abstract imagery with Una noting that “collaboration is key in the fashion world right now.”
