Hailed as one of the greatest British comedies ever written, Michael Frayn’s multi award-winning backstage farce serves up a riotous double bill – a play within a play.
Hurtling along at breakneck speed it follows the backstage antics of a touring theatre company as they stumble their way through rehearsals, to a shambolic first night in Weston-super-Mare, and a final disastrous performance in Stockton-on-Tees.
I checked out some reviews of the London run in 2011 and also of the current touring production and they are positively glowing and mostly 5 star!
‘Noises Off’ seems to be up there with ’One Man, Two Guvners’ when it comes to laugh out loud nights at the theatre, and as I loved the latter so much, I am very excited to get to the Opera House to see Noises Off.
Here’s what some reviewers had to say about it:
One of ‘the funniest plays you could ever hope to see and echoes with the sound of laughter’ Michael Billington , The Guardian, 14 December 2011
‘is about as good as physical comedy gets: a richly detailed tapestry of catastrophe’ Time Out London Dec 2011
Noises Off is a deeply entertaining and satisfying, even interesting, piece of theatre. Alan Geary, Nottingham Post April 2013
