My thoughts: Love or Money at the Lyric Theatre

You get an inkling of what kind of night you might be in for when you arrive to watch Love or Money by Rosemary Jenkinson at the Lyric to find a mainly female audience. The boxes of maltesers are at the ready, there’s a scent tayto crisps in the air and cans of Diet Coke are being popped open. The audience have arrived with the expectation of a fun night out.

Expect cool jazz versions of 80’s hits including Culture Club’s ‘Do you really want to hurt me’ and Soft Cell’s ‘Tainted Love’ playing as you take your seat.

c21 Theatre Company presents “Love or Money” in the Lyric until this Saturday 27th Feb. Billed as a comedy about banks, bras and going bust it’s attracting the crowds to the Naughton Studio for its short run at the Lyric before heading on tour.

Follow the story of Eilish who has made the decision to get back to dating after her divorce. She meets her man and starts to fall in love, but they both have their secrets and all is not as it seems. As the story evolves, the focus shifts to that big decision for Eilish, is it all about Love or Money, and which will she choose, her career or her man?

Listening to the audience on the way out, I could hear comments like, ‘that was great wasn’t it’, ‘I really enjoyed that so I did’,  and ‘I need the toilet, there was no interval’….maybe I shouldn’t listen in too much!!!!!!

Love or Money runs for 80 minutes with no interval with an age guidance of 16+.
