Memories to last a lifetime: The wee weekend away

Before Amber went back to school we spent a few days at the Ballymascanlon Hotel in Dundalk. Beautiful grounds, great food, and wonderful company.

They have a golf course with a Bronze Age tomb and a megalithic dolmen on the grounds, as well as a fantastic walled orchard which Jenn and I made good use of!

The restaurant’s outdoor seating area overlooks the grounds, and Amber had great fun playing with the other kids in the little wooded area at the bottom of the garden. Much better than sitting on their phones all evening…

We also had a bite in Fitzpatrick’s down the road, which is quite unlike any bar / restaurant I’ve ever been in. The sheer amount of antique stuff they have covering every surface, inside and out, is just incredible! I tried to take some pictures but they really do it no justice whatsoever; you’ll just have to go and see it for yourself.

As well as a load of crazy crap on the walls they also have a little farm with some pretty impressive creatures, including rare-breed pheasants, chipmunks, meerkats, and an albino peahen!

It was a wonderful end to the summer holidays and gave Amber some great memories to tell her friends about at school. Doesn’t she look so excited to be starting back?!

Hope you’re having a great week, and remember, as Oscar Wilde said, life’s too important to be taken seriously!

Tommy x
