Marvellous May

May is a very busy month in Belfast, luckily this coincides with what is normally the driest and sunniest month of the year in the city, although it will take a lot to beat Aprils weather with barely an April shower in sight.
So kicking off the month was the end of the Festival of Fools, the 30th Belfast Marathon, and the beginning of the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival which runs until the 8th May. Its only the 3rd of May and the city has already hosted the superb comedian Russell Kane and the 80’s pop band The Human League and David Guetta DJ Superstar! But May also sees what is one of the cities largest events in the form of the Balmoral Show at the Kings Hall complex from the 11th-13th. Don’t forget as well, this month sees the Lyric Theatre Opening Festival running until the 15th, and I must say, it looks fantastic! The Titanic 100 festival also continues this month with a variety of tours, plays and exhibitions focusing on…well, need I say?
Ending the month with the second bank Holiday weekend the beautiful Katherine Jenkins plays at the Odyssey on the 29th and City Hall sees the return of the ever successful Continental Market. There are a number of big names coming to the Waterfront including Michael Ball and Chris de Burgh for those of you old enough to remember the Lady in Red, way back when!
For the families amongst you is the Waterfront Hall Family Festival weekend on the 21-22nd, the Elephantastic Weekend at the Zoo (14-15) and the Wiggles Greatest Hits again at the Waterfront.
Then for you fashionistas is the continuing Miss Northern Ireland Heats this month with Miss East Belfast amongst them, and also the first Menarys/Tempest catwalk show in Belfast on the 20th at the Holiday Inn with proceeds in aid of Action Cancer.
On top of all that…it feels like the Summer already! Oh, so much to do, so little time. Have a marvellous May.
