Let’s go fashion swapping

Due to the weather this event has now been postponed. We’ll let you know about the new date as soon as it’s announced!

IKEA Belfast are encouraging fashion followers to make room for their lives at home by taking the time to organise their wardrobes, just in time for the spring fashion season to bloom and new styles to be sorted.

With that in mind, the home furnishings retailer will be hosting a Swap for your Life event as part of West Coast Cooler FASHIONWEEK on Saturday 23rd March in a stylishly designated area of the customer restaurant.

Hosting the event is model and Fashion PA, Laurina Kennedy whose Fashion Fasting blog inspired the team at IKEA to join forces with the Spring/Summer FASHIONWEEK shows and create a fringe event where thrifty fashionistas can bring previously loved garments to swap for a whole new array of findings.

During the Swap for your Life party, guests can exchange like for like garments through a traffic light system, ensuring a fair trade. No money will be exchanged, and guests are invited to swap to their hearts content completely free of charge! Prior to the event, designated drop off points at IKEA Belfast and FASHIONWEEK HQ in Belfast city centre will be available so clothes and their swappers can be registered and sorted appropriately.

Laurina Kennedy is currently undergoing one year of ‘fashion fasting’ where she will not purchase any clothes for 365 days, a tough feat for a Fashion PA; “I first started my One Year of Fashion Fasting blog in January, and since then it has really taken off and I’m so excited to work with both IKEA and FASHIONWEEK to host this party.

“It was one of my first ideas when I started my adventure to host a fashion swap party, as it is a great way to fill your wardrobe full of new clothes without actually spending money! The idea has grown wings and formed the Swap for your Life party, which will include a ballot where guests can make a cash donation to be in with a chance to win a £100 Ruedi Maguire Studio voucher, which can be used towards a bespoke dress making experience with the NI designer of the moment. I’ve worn several of Ruedi’s designs in the past, including the amazing yellow gown throughout this campaign. Proceeds will go towards Diabetes UK in Northern Ireland, IKEA Belfast’s designated charity for 2013.”

Lynn Campbell, Brand Manager at IKEA Belfast stated; “IKEA encourages the many people to make room for their lives at home as it is easy to let clutter get in the way of actually living life! During the Swap for your Life party we’ll show just how easy it is to have a passion for fashion as part of your life, and not let it take over your life.

“We will be giving out expert tips on storage solutions, and introducing guests to our revolutionary PAX customised wardrobes and how the smallest of storage solutions can make a huge difference.”

Cathy Martin, Director of FASHIONWEEK also commented; “I’m no Carrie Bradshaw, so I appreciate that learning how to organise a wardrobe is key for any fashion follower. With each season comes a potential influx of new clothes as the high street, designer collections and online stores entice us with their beautiful designs. IKEA offers a fabulous solution with its tailored wardrobe and storage solutions and now Laurina’s Swap party will allow stylistas to recycle previously worn fashion and make room for new things.”

Swap for your Life takes place at IKEA Belfast, at the back of the customer restaurant on Saturday 23rd March as part of the FASHIONWEEK schedule. Party goers can browse the rails from 11am – 2pm.
