Opening today at the MAC is another Bruiser Theatre Company production. After the hugely successful Sweet Charity, Bruiser are back with their adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s classic comedy Lady Windermere’s Fan.
The Oscar Wilde classic tells the story of Lady Margaret Windermere, a woman of high morals and absolute conviction. In her mind, people are either good or bad, with nothing in between. She discovers, to her horror, that her husband may be having an affair with another woman, of dubious moral standing.
This new adaptation by Patrick J. O’Reilly and directed by Lisa May, is filled with parlours and parties, eavesdropping, misunderstandings, secret information, letters falling into unintended hands and the cheeky wooing of pretty, young daughters. Wilde’s razor-sharp wit and satire of high society is as keenly observed and relevant today as any contemporary writer’s work.
Lady Windermere’s Fan will be downstairs at the MAC from today (7th) until the 17th November. Tickets start from just £9.50 and can be purchased online at themaclive.com by phone 028 9023 5053 or by calling in person to the MAC.
