Keep on keepin’ on!

Keep on keepin’ on! by Tommy Bell

Oh hi!

It’s been a minute since my last post; hope you haven’t missed us too much… For those of you who haven’t been here before, or who might’ve forgotten who I am (how could you?!) you can have a look at the intro blog here, or take my word for it that I’m a 32-year-old manchild who lives out in the sticks with my girlfriend Jenn and my 7 year old daughter Amber. This is a journal of all the weird and wonderful stuff that we get up to!

We live in a converted barn in the County Down countryside but Jenn and I both work in Belfast; we co-own InkMonkey Art Supplies in the Cathedral Quarter, and I’m also the manager / chief taster for Co Couture Chocolaterie in the City Centre. It’s a tough job but someone’s gotta do it…

Back at the ranch we also have a fluffy new member of the family; meet Roux!

She’s a 9-month old Persian who loves ear scratches, long naps on the sofa, and eating minced beef. In an effort to be as cool as Dan Bilzerian’s cat Smushball , Roux has her very own Instagram page where you can keep up to date with her shenanigans! Check it out here.

In other news, InkMonkey had a stall at comic-con last month, and to get us into geek-mode we caught up with one of the latest crazes: Hama beads. If you haven’t tried them, they’re surprisingly addictive! Basically it’s little cylinders of coloured plastic that you lay onto a peg grid to make shapes and pictures, then when you’re done you iron them and they melt together so you can take them off the pegs… it sounds a bit lame when I describe it like that, but honestly it’s really fun!
We made the Minecraft creeper, Pokeballs from Pokemon, a Mario mushroom, and a Deadpool logo… We’re going to turn them into badges and fridge magnets. I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been sneakily doing my own designs when Amber’s been in bed!

Speaking of making stuff, what do you think of this old skateboard that I turned into a lamp? I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

I’m nowhere near as good on a skateboard as I like to think I am, but I still enjoy flying downhill on my longboard when I’m chasing Amber on her bike. Saying that, I haven’t been out on it since last summer when I fitted a set of stupid big monster-truck wheels and didn’t upgrade any of the other hardware… Everything was going swimmingly until I tried to carve around a pothole in the road and the front bushing split, rendering the steering completely non-existent. I had to make a split-second decision; would I rather hit the ground on my feet and hope I could run as fast as I was rolling, or would I rather cut my losses and throw myself into the grass verge… I chose the verge. Luckily there were no cars coming, and neither the board nor I were any worse off save for a few scratches and a couple of nettle stings. The landing didn’t have quite as much bounce as it used to though!

Hope you guys have had no such misfortunes this week, and here’s wishing you a fun-filled weekend 🙂

PS: Jenn says hey!!

Keep on keepin’ on!

Tommy x
