It’s the countdown to Christmas with @PeteSnodden and @newbelfast

The countdown to Christmas has officially begun, with today’s announcement about performers at this year’s Christmas Lights Switch On at Belfast City Hall.

Taking centrestage on Saturday 16 November will be everyone’s favourite pig – Peppa Pig and her little brother George.

The popular character made famous by children’s TV will headline a packed entertainment line-up offering something for all the family.

Peppa and George will be joined on stage by the presenters of the popular Channel 5 TV strand “Milkshake” whose song and dance set will be sure to get the crowds into the party spirit!

Jeff Anderson, star of TV’s Jesus Christ Superstar, will take a break from rehearsals for Peter Corry’s Music Box “Christmas Extravaganza” in the Belfast Waterfront on 20 and 21 December, to perform popular Christmas songs alongside a youth choir.
The fantastic festive line up will also feature Belfast Operatic Society, 15-year-old Kirstin Aston and some surprise guests.

Speaking at the launch today, the Lord Mayor Councillor Máirtín Ó Muilleoir said:

“We have such a great line up of family entertainment this year and it promises to be a great night for everyone to enjoy the official start to Christmas. As the Belfast Continental Market opens at 12 noon on the same day, Saturday 16th November will be a great day out in Belfast for the young and the young at heart.”

Cool FM presenter Pete Snodden, who will compere the lights switch on, said: “I am delighted to be involved with such a feel good event for Belfast. I remember coming to the ‘Switch On’ as a child so I’m looking forward to performing on stage with my daughter’s favourite character Peppa Pig”.

Cool FM are sponsoring the event and will be running a Christmas Photo Competition to choose a winner to help the Lord Mayor, Peppa and George to switch on the Christmas Lights at City Hall.

The recently installed City Hall Illumination Project will play a key role in the Christmas show and this is the first time that many local people will see the spectacular lighting show live. The low-energy LED floodlights on the facade, main dome and turrets will allow the building and its beautiful architectural features to be illuminated in a variety of colours and combinations and enhance the festive lighting.

The Christmas Lights Switch On starts at 6.45pm on Saturday 16 November and will be a ticketed event.

Free tickets will be available at Belfast Welcome Centre, 47 Donegall Place from 9am on Wednesday November 6. Tickets, which are limited to a maximum of four per person, can be collected in person or booked online at www.visit-belfast.com.

Tickets booked online must be collected before 3pm on Sunday November 10. Tickets not collected at this time will be reallocated for collection in person only.
The ever popular Christmas Continental Market in the grounds of City Hall will open from noon on 16 November through to 22 December offering a range of unique gifts, gourmet food and drink.

Don’t forget to pay Santa’s postbox a visit (just beside the grotto within the market), and send off your Christmas wish lists to the North Pole. Each child who posts their letter by 18 December will receive an individual response from Father Christmas.
