Vertigo Indoor Skydiving, the first and only indoor skydiving simulator on the island of Ireland, has officially opened its doors in the former T13 building in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter.
The £1.5 million state-of-the-art facility is the newest venture from Belfast-based adventure centre, We Are Vertigo.
Developed using world leading Aerodium technology, the indoor skydiving centre allows adrenalin junkies to experience freefall conditions with speeds of up to 200km per hour.
Our flight experience
We were amongst the first guests to be invited along to experience freefall in the Titanic Quarter on Thursday afternoon. And the buzz was incredible. Once you arrive and sign the electronic disclaimer you wait for your pre booked flight time. You are then taken into the flight area, shown a short safety and instruction video, change into your flight gear, perform some warmup exercises and then it’s flight time, that’s the simplified version of what happens anyway.
You are taken through to the flight room and it’s impressive, a huge space, and totally not what I expected.
Your time inside the flight space is one on one time with an instructor who’s with you at all times. Safety is top priority. Instructors have completed extensive training, 60 plus hours of it.
This is an adrenaline rush, it’s one for the thrill seekers who maybe don’t want to actually jump out of a plane, but want to experience falling from 24,000 feet. Most flyers were coming out buzzing and excited. I took my chum Emer along and she was hyper for 2 hours after it, and can’t wait to go back. As for me, let’s just say I tried it and wouldn’t do it again. But like everything in life, different strokes for different folks.
The whole facility is really impressive sitting right beside, almost under, the Belfast cranes. It’s perfectly adaptable to be used as a movie set. Put up a green screen behind the flight area and you have a movie set. Maybe someday you’ll be able to say you’ve flown in the same studio as Superman?
Indoor skydiving is suitable for those aged 4 and upwards. The facilities can also be used by professionals to train for skydiving qualifications. An indoor skydiving session starts from £45.
