Oh hey there! I’m the new guy, thanks so much for stopping by!
My name’s Tommy, I’m 31, and I live in a converted barn on the farm where I grew up in County Down. By all accounts my lifestyle can get a little hectic; on any given day I could be a journalist, business owner, musician, personal trainer, artist, retail manager, consultant, designer, craftsman, programmer, farmhand, or any or all of the above, but first and foremost I’m a boyfriend and father. My girlfriend Jenn lives with me in The Barn, and my daughter Amber (6) stays with us at weekends and on Wednesdays after school.
Making the most of what we have in Northern Ireland is an ethos which I enthusiastically subscribe to, and in the words of legendary rocker Henry Rollins, there’s “No such thing as spare time, no such thing as free time, no such thing as down time, all you got is life time.”
I try to make sure my hours outside of work encapsulate that in the most holistic way possible. Bouts of flow-state activity, such as building dens, heavy-duty upcycling, downhill longboarding, or impromptu jam sessions are separated by more relaxing and reflective endeavours like picnics in the bluebell wood, reading in the garden, yoga, rambling, and arts & crafts. As Jenn puts it, we’re “making memories to last a lifetime.”
And that’s what this feature is all about! There are so many blogs and social media groups from Mum’s point of view, so we thought it would be good to get a little something from Dad. Expect a whole host of random things to make and do, plenty of awesome outdoor adventures (weather permitting), and a fair bit of insight into the wisdom of a 6 year old girl and the stupidity of a 31 year old manchild.
Until next time, keep on keepin’ on!
