Did you know that the Europa Hotel is 40 years old this year?
Originally opened in 1971 as the Grand Metropolitan, the hotel became the Forum Hotel in 1983. Then in 1993 it was taken over by the Hastings Hotel group and renamed the Europa. The hotel has had a number of refurbishments and expansions over the years and has now become one of the most celebrated and famous hotels in the city of Belfast.
The once tallest building in Belfast has had a troubled history and even earned itself the title of the most bombed hotel in Europe but now the hotel is the haunt of celebrities appearing in the Grand Opera House or at the Odyssey Arena and the Waterfront Hall. It has even hosted President Clinton and his wife during a visit to the city in 1995 and again in 1998, who had the suite named after him as a result of the refurbishment just before his visit.
A specially commissioned TV programme about the hotel was even shown on the BBC. The hotel and its team were the star attractions of the BBC documentary ‘Lobby Lives ‘which ran for two series on 2007 and 2008.
To mark the hotel’s special birthday, the first 40 guests to book a stay there each month will be able to enjoy a ‘40 winks for £40’ offer (a special rate of £40 per person) with a complimentary 1970s cocktail.
Over at the Causerie (the hotel restaurant) a 70s-inspired menu has been introduced, with such 70’s treats as prawn cocktail, deep fried scampi and of course black forest gateau.
Even the drinks menu has had a 70’s makeover! So get your funky 70’s self over to the Europa for a nostalgic trip down groovy memory lane.
You can also check out special offers at Hastings Hotels, or call the hotel on 028 9027 1066.
Happy Birthday Europa.
