Now the summer is (nearly) over, I always look forward to getting my peepers on new season clothes – as I really need some more of them in my wardrobe ahem….
Stores are already full with key pieces from all the big designers, but there is a fashion showcase taking place in Bangor tonight that gives a sneak peak at possibly the next big designers of the future.
The super talented model manager, Maureen Martin has once again teamed up with music legend, Barry Douglas of Camerata Ireland, to bring the Clandeboye Festival in the beautiful surroundings of the Clandeboye courtyard. The ethos behind the Festival is about encouraging young talent and creating opportunities for the next generation of budding fashion designers.
The passionate young graduates from Ulster University & Belfast Metropolitan College are teamed with established designers, Una Rodden Couture, Gordon Donaldson & Geraldine Connon. They will showcase a specially designed Russian influenced Collection “SVEDZA MODY ” in celebration of 30 years since Barry Douglas won the TCHAIKOVSKY piano competition in Russia.
As with previous years, this event showcases the very strong student design team from both colleges and Denman International will award bursaries to a best designer from each institution.
I’m very excited by the fact that students have been asked to create a specially inspired outfit for sponsor TAYTO, which will no doubt be an innovative creation. If they need any help eating the cheese and onion nibbles out of the bag to create their masterpiece, then I’m their woman!
However, I’m not sure if crisp eating is within keeping with the opulent surroundings and bevy of beauties Maureen will have gracing the catwalk. With a career that spans more than 35 years, she has represented some of the most successful and beautiful models in the industry.
Having experience producing shows for international designers Alexander McQueen, Julian McDonald and Vivienne Westwood, Maureen is a pro at this type of event, as well as being one of the most down to earth women in the fashion industry. Her passion and enthusiasm shines through at all her events and I can’t wait to see what she has in store.
Tickets are priced at £20 or keep an eye on my Twitter feed @grainnemcgarvey later as I’ll be taking pics from the event.
