The term ‘Wine Wednesday’ for the uninitiated, is a relatively new phenomenon and offers an excuse to drink wine mid-week while not feeling guilty about it.
Featuring in the urban dictionary, as well as having it’s own Twitter hashtag gives it cred in my book, and always one for keeping it real, I was rather pleased that the Woodford Boure Wolf Blass wine tasting event fell on my new favourite day of the week!
Celebrating 50 years of Wolf Blass wines is a good excuse for a celebration and if throw in some yummy Aussie themed BBQ grub and you have all the makings of a great evening. Shame the weather didn’t come with the southern hemisphere guests, but wine makes everything better…so I like to believe 🙂
The evening was hosted by Chief Wine Maker for Wolf Blass, Chris Hatcher, who dazzled us with his wine knowledge of the range of 12 or was it 15 (it all got a bit fuzzy after the 8th glass…) of some of Australia’s best white and red varieties.
I must confess that I’m not much of a red wine drinker, but it was hard not to get into the spirit of things (pardon the pun) and try the special and highly coveted Wolf Blass Black Label.
Don’t get me wrong I’m far from a wine expert, I just go with the taste and the Wolf Blass range has something that appealed to even my fussy palate.
I did find out that my favourite tipple Sauvignon Blanc is definitely meant to be served chilled chilled – phew, just the way I like it. I held back from telling Chris that I often put ice in my glass to make sure it’s cold enough, because after 20 plus years of appreciating fine wine I’m not sure he would have liked that fun fact….
The good news is that you don’t have to go all the way to Australia to try out the range as it is available in most supermarkets and independents and even better news is that it doesn’t even have to be a Wednesday for you to try them out.
I hear there’s going to be a heatwave this weekend so now’s the time to give them a blast. Then all you need is to get the shielas together, fire up the barbie and get the kangaroo burgers on the grill mates!
