As you know I like to share my personal experiences with you G Spotters! whether they are good, bad or downright ugly. Well this week I am sharing all three as I give you a sneak peek into a few of my own personal guilty pleasures. By definition a guilty pleasure is something you love to do but is not really held in high regard by everybody else. Hmm this could be most of my life, but thankfully I don’t really worry too much what other people think!
Keeping it Country: I never had myself down as a country music lover, but it’s hard not to get in on the action of late. Don’t get me wrong I’m not donning a cowboy hat and suede jacket to work just yet, but I would have no problem tuning into a bit of Nathan Carter ‘Wagon Wheel’ or Mart Mone’s ‘Slip the Clutch’ on Hugo Duncan– much to the disgust of my work colleagues. Country music is big business across the world and if you fancy donning your cowboy boots a little closer to home, then head to “Country In The Park” this weekend (28 & 29 May). The cream of Irish Country music will take over the grounds of Omagh’s Ulster American Folk Park for the first country music festival. Two days of the best the business has to give with three stages and over 50 artists it will certainly be one for the country music fans!
Movie Buff: I love movies, especially if they are chick flicks, 80s cult or old Holywood glamour. Without giving away my age, ahem… some of my favourites include Dirty Dancing, White Men Can’t Jump and The Goonies! So when I found out about a local event that covers some of the classics, and includes food/wine I knew I had to share it. Fratelli Belfast hosts regular Ladies Night events and shows some of the best movies you’ll remember from back in the day. Upcoming shows include Ghost, Top Gun and Fatal Attraction. Green Fingers: I’ve been in my own house for about a year and finally got into gardening. Yes, I know it’s not something that a thirty something, cocktail loving, fashion follower might naturally gravitate to, but there is definitely something satisfying about bringing a living thing into your house and not killing it! I’m a big fan of bright flowers and have recently discovered Cameron’s Garden Centre on the Hillhall Road and although it is a bit pricey, the choice is amazing. I picked up one of these beautiful lavender plants, which smells divine and I guess give off calming vibes. Cameron’s is a great place to try on a Sunday as it’s Sunday lunch and desserts are to die for.
And finally….It would be hard for me to talk about guilty pleasures without talking about my slight obsession with Angela Lansbury, My Sky planner is full of episodes of the Cabot Cove super sleuth in her role as Jessica Fletcher in Murder She Wrote. I couldn’t contain my excitement earlier this year at the Dublin Literary Festival when I was inches away from her on the red carpet before she shared her career highlights with us. Her roles have included Sweeney Todd, a teapot in Beauty & the Beast and Madame Arcati in Blithe Spirit on London’s West End – which I was lucky enough to see. I know it might be a bit left field for some, but I’m sure we can all agree that if we looked that good at 91 years old it would be pretty pleasurable!
