At this time of year it is easy to feel stressed so taking time out to pamper yourself is probably very far down the list. So I was tickled pink to stumble a range of luxury home and beauty products, that look and smell delicious, and best of all they’re local.
Bog Standard is a boutique Irish company that has become a firm favourite for stylish giftware with a quirky twist. It fuses together Irish landscapes – wildflower woodlands and wind blown coastlines to create scented candles, fine soaps and home fragrance collections. In essence, the company has tried to ‘bottle’ all that is lovely about Irish life and landscape into a comprehensive product range.
A candle is a candle some might say, but not so in this case, as the extra fragrance content (7% compared to average 3-5%) means the smell of the candles really come alive in your home. The Winter candle is a feast for the senses and smells like all the delights of Christmas in a glass.
The Rose Hip lip butter has a lovely smooth texture and a slight tint. It moisturises my lips and made them feel nourished, without feeling like I had two tonnes of product on. It’s light and has a fresh fruity smell and unlike other lip butters or balms it doesn’t require constant application.
I always thought that soaps are an old fashioned gift and something you got for your granny, but Bog Standard has definitely made it cool again to use soaps and smellies. The soaps are made from natural palm oil and glycerine, are triple milled, just like the French make their soaps. The result is a creamy, silky and long lasting bar of soap that won’t disappear down the plughole!
If you are looking for a gift for a friend or even yourself, then this range is definitely a special treat and worth a try. Although the prices start from only £2.95, the quality and packaging are worth twice the price, so in effect there is nothing bog standard about these products, well nothing except the name!
