Belfast is buzzing this week and although there are enough launches to keep you busy every night, here are a few suggestions I’ve spotted to keep you entertained over the weekend.
Fashion: A beautiful destination for lingerie, swimwear and nightware has now opened its doors in Victoria Square. London brand, Boux Avenue has chosen this city centre location for one of its 20 something nationwide stores. This cutsie boutique brings traditional service, superior fit and outstanding quality to a modern and luxurious setting.
Shoppers can enjoy free bra fitting and take advantage of the handy intercom to chat with the experts in the comfort of their own cubicle. Available bra sizes are 28-38 A-G and clothing sizes range from 6-18. Looks like a perfect treat for or from your boyfriend and definitely the perfect place to put some ooh la la in your bedtime wardrobe.
Fun: If you fancy a night of escapism, I would highly recommend a trip to the Lyric to see The Night Alive. Set it Dublin, it tells the story about Tommy – a middle aged man who is just about getting by and it follows the highs and lows of his slightly hectic existence.
We sat in the front row, so it did feel like we were actually in the play, but even if you aren’t that close you will definitely spend the evening experiencing a rollercoaster of emotions.
The show runs until 31 October and with the fabulous Adrian Dunbar playing the lead, you might even see me there again before the run ends.
Food: From the family that brought us Rita’s, The Perch and the Albany – the latest new kid on the culinary block is Sweet Afton. Located in the former Shiro site, this bar & restaurant is more of a casual experience than Shiro, but with just as much class.
With a cocktail list to die for alongside a few unusual beers, this will definitely be a busy weekend venue. Good to see this side of town fighting back against the dominant Cathedral Quarter with some quirky and buzzy places to eat, drink and be merry now open in the Linen Quarter.
If you do fancy giving it a try, make sure to get in quick before the festive season starts or you’ll be battling your way to the bar between mistletoe diddlyboppers and Christmas jumpers. Actually, now I think about it, that sounds like a pretty fun night out!
