Ok fess up, how many of you make New Year’s resolutions? And maybe more importantly how many of you stick to them? One artist and illustrator from Belfast has impressively completed the full 365 days of her 2014 resolution and has been lucky enough to turn it into a successful business opportunity.

It all started back in January 2014 when Jane Moore started recording observations, thoughts and ideas in a ‘Sketch A Day’ collection. Taking inspiration from topics such as literature, travelling, current projects, family, public figures and life-drawing Jane has created a diverse range of drawings from each and every day of last year.

She said, “Drawing a Sketch A Day allowed the mind to wander off on a creative tangent from everyday work. Providing freedom to draw what you desire and also allowing for personal growth and development. Drawing skills improve vastly, as does the ability to think of fresh and unique ideas for both personal and commercial work.”

From Thursday 22-Wednesday 28 January, Jane will be showcasing her work in Shapes in Hackney Wick, London. The innovative arts venue will house 365 individual sketches from her Sketch A Day journals.

If you won’t be in London over the next few weeks, you can also purchase pieces from the Sketch A Day project from her website www.sketchadayproject.com. Sketches that have already been bought are labelled ‘sold’ and prices for a mounted and frame piece (with postage) range from £35-£155.

I’ve been lucky enough to know Jane for many years and it’s great to see her succeed with her passion. Her commission works are beautiful and unique and can be created especially for a birthday or other special occasion. Her clients include The National Portrait Gallery, i-D magazine and The Royal Academy of Arts, so if you purchase one you’ll be in good company and every time you look at it you might be inspired to stick to your own New Year’s resolutions!
