Guest blog: Fashion at Fairhill

Guest blogger Grainne McGarvey tells Belfast Times how she’s planning to spend her Saturday.

Any opportunity to combine my two favourite things – fashion and shopping and I’m there. So my ears pricked up when I heard that Fairhill Shopping Centre’s Big Fashion Event is taking place this Saturday (20 April) and better still – it’s free!

Granted that being a fully fledged city dweller means I usually spend my weekend browsing in Victoria Square or St George’s Market, but I’ve been promised something special from Ballymena’s leading retail spot so I’m intrigued to find out more.

I’m sucking myself in already as the event will see beauties from the Alison Campbell model agency taking to the catwalk donning key S/S fashion trends for men and women from well-known Fairhill retailers including Miss Selfridge, River Island, Wallis, Next, New Look, Marks & Spencer, Debenhams and Clockwork Orange. Here’s hoping the men’s swimwear range will give me something to remember!

I like the sound of the Style Wardrobe which takes place at 2pm in between the 1 & 3pm catwalk shows. Fairhill’s fashion merchandiser will give shoppers tips on how to recreate the looks from the catwalk. This will be good for people who usually buy individual items but find it difficult to put them together in a co-ordinated outfit – unlike me who’s problem is that I just have too many clothes!

Throughout the day models will be in shop windows, dressed in the latest styles – wonder if I can buy one to come home with me! The team from Electric Chair hair salon in Ballymena will be creating catwalk ready looks, while the Boots beauty teams will be working their magic on customers with beauty make-overs. The lovely Emma Louise Johnston will be hosting the event and having a good chin wag with the audience.

Ooh I’m getting excited already! I’ll report back after the event to give my verdict, but in the meantime here’s a sneak peek at some of the looks from the catwalk.

SPRING SUMMER FASHION LOOKS FROM FAIRHILL

Horizontal, vertical and oblique stripes, vibrant dip dye, military style jackets with safari prints, bright, clashing colours and fondant fancy florals will all be making an appearance on the catwalk and guaranteed to inject wearable glamour into your new season wardrobe.
