Last week I was invited onto one of the many cruise ships visiting Belfast this Summer. August feels like it’s been back to back cruise ships in the harbour and that’s surely fantastic news for local tourism. (Check out the cruise schedule)
When there is a big ship docked, there is a noticeable increase in the number of tourists with maps walking the city. I love asking if they need help and chatting to them! Maybe I should have a ‘visitors vibes’ section on BT. And tell you all what they love about our city.
Anyway, back to the Silver Cloud.
The ship was docked at the Repair Dock out beyond Titanic Belfast and the Thompson Dry Dock with great views towards Belfast.
I arrived and joined the media tour of the ship before lunch in the main restaurant.
As a seasoned cruise ship passenger I was definitely keen to see what a small luxury company had to offer.
The Silver Cloud is an older ship which was refurbished in 2010. Everything is small and perfect for all you really need. All cabins are large suites with your own butler to look after you for the journey. Nothing is as sparkly, big and showy as I have experienced to date, but it doesn’t need to be, as the service sparkles! With only just over 200 passengers and even more crew, it’s guaranteed to have personal service catering for your every whim.
The theatre could seat every guest on the ship. The dining rooms, yes, more than one, were set and ready for top notch grub, or fine dining as some like to describe it as!
The loungers by the pool were sitting pretty and waiting for the Belfast tourists to return. Many had apparently chosen to visit Titanic Belfast.
Our meal was exquisite! The nine guests included magazine publishers, travel writers, the PR team, Silverseas management and me! We enjoyed 6 courses of 5-Star dining and wine specially selected by the sommelier.
I have included a photo of the dessert as it deserves a mention. Delicious!
Silversea sail the world in 8 ships visiting some exotic locations and unique ports including Belfast, yay!
“Distinct among luxury cruise lines, Silversea personalises a variety of “big-ship” activities with small-ship ambience for an onboard experience as diverse and unique as you.”
Check out their website for some amazing cruising itineraries. I think I’ll end up trying one of them out some day. What a great way to see some of the worlds most stunning locations, but in the luxury of a Silversea ship.
