Discovering Door21 in Bangor

This restaurant is now closed.

Our Bangor Times #lovinbangor campaign during the summer highlighted and promoted a lot of Bangor businesses who happily got on board with the campaign to get their photo taken with our #lovinbangor sign. One of those was Door21.

Door21 is the newest restaurant to open in Bangor by Simon and Elaine Chisholm. They have over 20 experience in the food industry and have been running Garfunkels in Ballyholme for a while now, so when the opportunity arose to open at 21 Hamilton Road, Door21 was created.

Door21 pride themselves on their deli burger menu and sizzlers and also their 21 day dry aged steak. Give then a call on 02891453333 for more info.

IMG_1186.JPG Last Tuesday night we headed into Bangor town centre to make the most of the burger promotion.

They have just launched a number of weekday promotions:

Tuesday night is Burger Bonanza night with buy one get one free.

Thurs night is steak night with 2 sirloins and sides for £25

Also they will be starting their £5 lunch menu soon IMG_1185.JPG Arriving in the little black and white Hollywood themed restaurant, we sat in one of the booths and made our choice from the extensive menu:

Chicken and Bacon burger Chicken fillet topped with bacon, caramelised onion and tomato in a toasted focaccia bun

R.J’s Big Smoke Smokey BBQ steak burger topped with smokey bacon, hash brown, crispy onion ring and smoked applewood cheese.

The burgers are available in two sizes, 8oz and 12oz. So it depends how much of a feed you want, but I thought the 8oz R.J’s Big Smoke was quite sufficient. If you want burgers and fries proper American style and huge, then it’ll be the 12oz all the way. And their buy one get one free burger offer on a Tuesday is superb value!

Both burgers were delicious and oh so tasty. The bacon was cooked just the way I prefer, slightly crispy, the Big Smoke was definitely big with two hash browns, an onion ring and applewood cheese. The chicken burger we ordered was the 12oz option and had two chicken breasts topped with the same delicious bacon.

A lot of places would claim to have the best burger in town, there are a few in Belfast! But this unassuming little Bangor restaurant could claim the title for Bangor and is without a doubt better than quite a few burgers I’ve had in Belfast. It was in all honesty a complete surprise, much like that other down to earth place I mention a lot in Lisburn, Angelo’s.
