Sitting at the end of Seacliff Road in Bangor with views over Ballyholme beach and out to the Irish Sea, Cairn Bay is an award winning boutique guest house with a unique style. It’s also where you’ll find the Open House Festival events in their ‘beach house’ out the back and the place you’ll find some of the Open House performers stay during August, and that includes Lloyd Cole and Bonnie Prince Billy.
Back to the breakfast…I’ve heard rumours for years that it was good, but I had never been able to schedule a visit until recently while I was visiting with a view to stocking some Belfast Times merchandise in the little gift shop.
With amazing home made granola and muesli, and a delicious coconut yoghurt, the cold buffet was a treat!
The menu features a lot of very local producers including Clandeboye Estate Yoghurts, Ballyholme honey, Salmon from Bangors oldest fishmonger McKeown’s, and Copeland Island crab.
It wouldn’t be a breakfast treat without an Ulster Grill, and a delicious one at that! With perfectly poached egg on a perfectly presented plate with perfectly marvellous sausages and bacon in a perfectly charming oak panelled breakfast room this was a breakfast to remember.
