C.S.Lewis remembered as Aslan sculpture unveiled

Last night East Belfast witnessed an unexpected snow storm as Aslan was unveiled in new C.S.Lewis Square.

At the junction of two greenways, Connswater and Comber, Narnia came to life as a snow storm arrived in the new Square. The unveiling of the new bronze Narnia sculptures brought hundreds out to celebrate the life of Jack, C.S.Lewis, who was brought up in Belfast and loved the city.

Characters from his iconic Chronicles of Narnia were introduced to the awaiting crowd on the anniversary of his death in 1963. The seven sculptures based on characters from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe are worth visiting. Aslan stands proudly centre stage overlooking the new public space with the White Witch and other characters placed in the surrounding trees and shrubs.

If you aren’t sure exactly where they are, head to the McDonalds at Connwater shopping centre and the square is right across the road.

If you are feeling adventurous, Belfast Bikes introduced a new bike station just in time for the launch event. So you can hop on a bike, and explore the area around both greenways.
