On Saturday Katie Larmour opened a new exhibition by local artists within Bangor’s Marine Court Hotel. The ‘By the Sea’ exhibition showcases a collection of sea themed pieces from over 70 artists in the hotel’s dining room.
The exhibition includes artwork from well known artists such as Neil Shawcross, Hugh Clawson, Jane Swanston, Rosemary Gifford and James May to name a few. Amateur artists are also being given the opportunity to display their artwork with contributions from Bangor Arts Club, The Pastel Society of Ireland and the University of Ulster Art College.
I had a quick chat with Katie as she was putting finishing touches to the exhibition just before the launch on Saturday.
Katie’s passion for art led her to achieving a degree in Fine and Applied Art and she, as curator, is excited about the 3-month exhibition.
She was clearly very enthusiastic about all the pieces and was more than happy to show me round the exhibition, describing in great detail each piece and the artist.
The exhibition has a great variety of prices and I was tempted by a number of quirky pieces, maybe the hand will actually reach into the old wallet for once.
I loved seeing someone so passionate and excited about a new venture. And who knows, maybe some day we’ll see Katie presenting an art show on TV talking about something she is truly passionate about.
